Just when you thought it was safe to return to movie theaters, Tyler Perry and his audacious Madea character are back in action — and just in time to spook the shook.
The busy director-actor was in town for a Monday screening of "Boo! A Madea Halloween," and a line of excited attendees circled Chestnut waiting for his arrival at the Prince Theater. Thus far, thanks to Perry, Madea has gone to jail, taken over Christmas, and now is scaring up a hilarious Halloween.
But what would she do if she were to take over Philly?
"She's been here!" Perry declared of his Big Mama-esque alter ego. "At the Merriam Theater and the Liacouras Center," he asaid, referencing the times his popular plays have come to Philly.
Perry says Madea would have to have a Philly cheesesteak — from Geno's, thank you — and that she wants to go "see the Art Museum steps. Not run them, though."
Oh, and she has to stop in North Philly? Why?
"Because," he says, smiling. "That's where Jill Scott is from."
