A Sherman Oaks man accused of shooting wife in a domestic dispute was identified Tuesday by Los Angeles police.
Muhieddine Elayal, 53, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Monday firearms incident, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Liliana Preciado.
According to booking records, Elayal was arrested at 5:30 a.m. Monday and booked into custody at 11:15 a.m. the same day at the Van Nuys Jail.
He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to records.
Elayal was arrested after a 45-year-old woman was shot at the home they share, officials said.
A City __news Service report said the woman was shot by her husband during an alcohol-fueled argument.
“A husband shot his wife during a domestic argument,” Sgt. Maria Pedroza of the LAPD’s Van Nuys Station told CNS. “She was hit in the arm, treated at the hospital and is now back home in stable condition.”
There has been no word on what the argument was about, CNS reported.
The man under arrest was under the influence of alcohol during the argument and was injured when he fell and hit his head, Pedroza added. He was hospitalized and then taken to the jail.
Another adult, believed to be the couple’s child, was in the house at the time of the shooting, said Sgt. Eric Swihart of the Van Nuys Community Police Station.
