SportsNet New York's Chris Carlin hired as WIP's afternoon host

The former SportsRadio 94.1 WIP host, now working in Houston after he was fired back in August, took to Twitter on Tuesday with __news that he was being replaced by SportsNet New York host Chris Carlin.

"Been told that Chris Carlin from NYC is going to be the afternoon host at WIP," Innes tweeted out to his followers on Tuesday. 

It seemed like an odd choice for WIP, considering Carlin's deep roots in New York sports as a former WFAN host and preseason Giants announcer. But New York Daily __news media columnist Bob Raissman confirmed Innes’ report this morning, saying Carlin’s last day on SNY’s Loud Mouths, a show he has co-hosted since 2008, would likely be Nov. 4.

WIP would not confirm or deny that Carlin would be joining Ike Reese, the ex-Eagles linebacker and former midday host who already made his move to afternoons earlier this week.

In addition to his duties at SNY, Carlin also does-play-by-play for Rutgers football. He was recently replaced as a radio voice of Rutgers basketball by WFAN’s Jerry Recco.

Carlin was also a sports reporter - and punching bag for the host - on Imus in the Morning, where the portly announcer was best known for his "Fat Boy Lock of the Week!" segment. In 2007, before Don Imus was fired for making racially insensitive comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, the host fired Carlin on air later for not mentioning the score of a North Carolina/Duke women's basketball game during his sports update. Carlin was re-hired minutes later: 

Carlin's hiring caps off a busy couple of week for WIP, which has seen the exit of long-time host Michael Barkann and the creation of two brand-new shows. Earlier this week, the station launched its new midday show, hosted by former 97.5 The Fanatic host Joe DeCamara and ex-Eagles fullback Jon Ritchie. 

The Fanatic has yet to announce a replacement for DeCamara, who hosted a show during the 6 to 10 p.m. hour. Former Eagles quarterback and ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski contines to host his weekly show, which he formerly co-hosted with DeCamara, Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m.
