Giuliana Rancic has always been open about her fertility struggles and even chronicled her family's journey with a surrogate to have son Edward Duke Rancic, but the E! star revealed to Life & Style that she has only one frozen embryo left.
"This could be our last shot," Giuliana, 40, revealed. "We're keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out."
Although she is putting all of her eggs in one basket (no pun intended), she is maintaining a realistic attitude about the process, knowing how much of a struggle it was before she and husband Bill Rancic, 43, were blessed with Duke.
"If I don't ever have another kid, I have to remind myself that I'm very fortunate to have what I have," she added.
Giuliana and Bill went through three rounds of IVF treatments before finding out the E! News host had breast cancer. She and her The Apprentice-winning husband put their plans to start a family on hold while G underwent a double mastectomy. After beating cancer, she and Bill turned to Delphine, the surrogate who would later deliver Duke, but the Rancic family revealed Delphine suffered a miscarriage with their second child in 2014.
"You know we've been trying to get pregnant, hoping to give Duke a sibling and have another child. Sadly, we found out pretty recently that our attempts to get pregnant a second time didn't work out," Rancic opened up during an episode of E! News. "The IVF did work but our surrogate miscarried after nine weeks, so we've had some time to digest the information, to come to terms with it, and you know how we are, Bill and I, we're just all about moving forward."
She continued, "It's really about knowing there's a bigger plan at play, so for some reason, it wasn't meant to happen this way. It'll all be clear one day soon."
Unfortunately, G and Bill received the news while the cameras were rolling for their reality show Giuliana &Bill, which made the situation even harder for them.
"I gotta say, though, in that clip, what really happens there—you know, you're getting this call and there's cameraman around you and all these people and Bill and I kinda looked at each other like, 'You know what? Let's just make this call short and let's get off camera and talk to the doctor more about this," she said.
"We're kinda in shock, but we had to take the conversation off-camera when some things have to be private, especially when you're first learning information like that."
