And The Bachelor Chris Soules Chose...

Chris Soules, Whitney Bischoff, Bachelor ABC/Nicole Kohl

Chris Soules is officially engaged, and we couldn't be happier with who he chose.

At the end of (the first part of) tonight's Bachelor finale, Chris proposed to Whitney Bischoff, and it was the cutest thing ever.

The final rose ceremony took place in his family barn, aka the place where Chris raised his first pig. Chris first had to say goodbye to Becca, who spent most of the episode unable to tell Chris whether or not she was in love with him, and when she would even be ready to commit to their lives together.

Chris let her down very easily, explaining that it just didn't seem like she was ready, and then it was Whitney's turn.

"I came here with an idea of who you were, and I've never been disappointed," Whitney told Chris, and he responded in kind.

"Probably one of the best days of my life when we got to crash a wedding together, and I was like, holy cow, this woman is perfect for me. And being able to have you here to day and being able to have you here in Iowa and meeting my family and seeing how they reacted to you...It's not work for us. It's natural, and it's like we both want the same thing, and it feels so right, and it feels so perfect, and that's what I want for the rest of my life. I love you."

And that's when he got down on one knee and said those four little words, "Will you marry me?" before slipping the ring on her finger.

Unfortunately, the ring only made it to Whitney's knuckle, but it didn't matter in the slightest, except that it made us giggle.

There were three things that became abundantly clear throughout that finale: Whitney was the clear winner, Chris really wanted to pick Becca, but Becca was nowhere near ready for this.

Given those things, it was kind of a strange couple of hours to watch. Whitney knew what to say and how to say it at every step of the game. She never screwed up, never said anything weird, never embarrassed herself, completely impressed his family and friends, and was always completely certain about her relationship with Chris. She seemed perfect for him, but at times, she also seemed like she had been created in a lab, just for him.

That was what made it all the stranger to see how desperately Chris wanted Becca to be the perfect girl for him, and to see him so crushed by the fact that she just couldn't say she was in love with him, or that she could see herself moving to Arlington or getting married or having babies anytime soon.

On After the Final Rose, she did acknowledge that there might be some serious questions as to what on earth she was doing on The Bachelor if she was so not ready for this, but she also inadvertently made it all the more clear that Chris had made the right decision with Whitney.

By the end, we were bored, but in what we guess was a good way. Chris was going to make the decision that had been the correct one all season, and he and Whitney will live happily a few months after, at the very least.

After the proposal, Jimmy Kimmel tried to make things more interesting by gifting the happy couple with a cow named Juan Pablo, and Chris Harrison livened things up with a twisty new Bachelorette announcement (more on that in a second), but for the most part, we affirmed tonight that relationships that make too much sense are way too boring for TV.

Now, to recap the Bachelorette situation: Both Britt and Kaitlyn will star as co-bachelorettes next season, but the men will choose which one they like better. So even though The Bachelorette is supposed to be the lady's turn to choose, this season, it's not! That's the big twist!

The guys still get to choose which woman is more deserving of their awkward television kisses, and America is once again pitting women against each other for no reason at all, aside from the fact that Britt is going to cry a lot, and thus bring the drama while Kaitlyn is in charge of the laughs.

Hopefully, this won't be nearly as much of a trainwreck as it sounds like it might be, but we'll have to wait until May 18 to find out.

In the meantime, vote in our poll below to let us know how you felt about Chris Soules as The Bachelor, and then head to the comments to discuss the season!
