Robin Williams' tragic death brought understandable shock to the Hollywood community Monday evening.
But for Katie Holmes, the news of the actor's passing came minutes before the New York City premiere of her new film, The Giver.
"It's so awful, so awful. It's just shocking," Holmes told E! News on the red carpet. "We just heard. I'm just so sorry for his family and friends."
Although Holmes never shared significant screen time with Williams, she was very fond of his work and career.
"He made us all ride so high," she shared. "He brought such laughter and joy to us for so many years."
The Oscar winner was found dead at his home in Tiburon, Calif. Monday morning.
According to the Marin County Sheriff's Department, Williams died from asphyxia due to hanging. He was found by his personal assistant. Toxicology reports will not be available for another two to six weeks.
Visibly shaken by the news, Holmes shared one wish many fans hold this week.
"I just hope that his family is okay and he's at peace," Holmes said.
